dead in Khulna

A clothing trader has been shot dead in Khulna's Rupsha Upazila. The killing took place at around 10:30 pm on Sunday near the eastern end of the Rupsha Bridge in front of the Jabusa Autogas Filling Station, according to police. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Sagar Sheikh, a resident of the Green Bangla Housing area. Citing witnesses, Rupsha Police Station chief (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman said several men called Sagar out of his home before shooting him in the head and fleeing the scene. — bdnews24.com

Two killed in Dinajpur road accident

DINAJPUR, Dec 15: Two people including a child were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Kabirajhat under Birganj upazila of the district on Sunday night. The deceased were Abu Sayeed, 8, son of Md. Afzal Hossain of Dangarhat village and Anarul Islam, 65, son of Fazlar Rahman of Bhognagar Kalkati village of the upazila. The accident took place on the Dinajpur-Panchagarh highway at around 10.30 pm when a paddy-laden tractor collided head-on with a rickshaw-van, leaving two van passengers dead on the spot and five others injured. — BSS

BGB seizes four firearms,

ammunition in C'nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Dec 15: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered four pistols, nine magazines and 24 rounds of ammunition during a special operation in Shibganj upazila of the district on Monday. The weapons were seized from Gopalpur area of Manaksha union, about one kilometre inside the Bangladesh border, confirmed at a press conference held at the 53 BGB Battalion headquarters in Chapainawabganj. Addressing the media, BGB-53 Battalion Commander Lt Col Mostafizur Rahman said border patrols, check posts and intelligence surveillance have been intensified following the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12. — BSS

Fugitive convict arrested after 30 years in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 15: Raozan police of the district arrested a life-time convicted fugitive after 30-years from his home at Sammaholder Para village of Noapara union under the upazila on Sunday night. The arrestee fugitive Abu Taher is son of Syed Ahmed of Sammohaldar Para under the upazila who was sentenced to life term imprisonment for killing Emdadul Haque alias Khokan.— BSS
