AI-driven patent control
December 16, 2025 00:00:00
Artificial intelligence is transforming the modes of operation of intellectual property across the globe, and Bangladesh is already beginning to feel it as innovation is increasingly taking place in domains such as textiles, food processing, small-scale engineering and tech startups. An AI-based platform like Derwent Innovation can provide Bangladeshi firms with a powerful lever to cope with the increasing difficulty of patents and intellectual property, particularly in family-owned ones.
In Bangladesh, old know-how, several years of expertise and small enhancements are mostly employed in family businesses. However, a great number of individuals are not ready to patent their idea due to higher expenses, lack of knowledge of patenting, and also because the system is difficult to materialize worldwide. AI changes all that. A search engine like Derwent Innovation can find millions of patent documents across all the countries worldwide and determine whether a Bangladeshi idea already exists, identifying potential risks of infringement. This will enable the entrepreneurs to save on costly mistakes and enhance their competitiveness.
As an example, the family-owned ready-to-wear garment factory that is designing a new fabric cover can consult the international patents within minutes by using AI rather than a costly consultant. Similarly, an agri-tech company that is owned by a family can receive immediate alerts whenever foreign firms patent are
in a similar field. This enables them to do things quickly, be it through altered design or getting patents both domestically and internationally.
Bangladesh can also defend its traditional industries with the use of AI. It could be a new jute product, a new approach to food-processing, or a workshop engineering solution; the AI would be able to map, assess, and guard these inventions in a more effective way.
The fact that family companies are the key drivers of the Bangladesh economy means that the application of AI in the management of patents is not only an advantage but also a path to sustainable competitiveness, innovation, and expansion to new markets across the globe.
