Beware of fake tutor-giving platforms
March 25, 2025 00:00:00
Private tutor platforms have become increasingly popular among university students and parents seeking qualified educators. Many talented yet financially struggling students depend on tutoring jobs to support their education, while parents turn to these platforms to find competent teachers for their children. However, some unethical and fraudulent platforms exploit this demand, deceiving both students and parents with financial traps.
Many dishonest agencies lure students with attractive advertisements, demanding registration fees, advance commissions, or other charges. Once payment is made, these agencies often vanish without a trace. In many cases, the addresses provided are fake, with no actual students or households present. Parents, too, fall victim to such scams-despite paying substantial amounts in search of competent teachers, they often receive inexperienced or unqualified tutors.
To curb such fraudulent practices, immediate and effective measures must be taken. Authorities should monitor private tutor platforms, identify and penalise fraudulent agencies, establish clear guidelines for tuition services, enhance online surveillance, and ensure redress for victims. Additionally, both students and parents must exercise caution. Before making any financial commitments, they should thoroughly verify the authenticity of the platform to protect themselves from potential scams.
