FE REPORT | December 22, 2025 00:00:00

Joint-force operations will resume in a bid to keep the law-and-order situation under control ahead of the national elections, Election Commissioner (EC) Brig. Gen. Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (Retd.) said on Sunday.

He also said the Election Commission (EC) will not allow any activities that disrupt the electoral environment.

"Any activities that disrupt the electoral environment will not be tolerated. The joint force operations will be resumed ahead of the national elections. And its main objectives will be to recover illegal arms and ammunition, arrest terrorists and bringing them under the purview of the law," said Mr. Sanaullah.

He made the observations while briefing newsmen following the two separate meetings of the Election Commission with the chiefs of the Armed Forces and top officials of the law-enforcing agencies at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.

EC officials including its Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present during the briefing, which was held at the EC auditorium.

Briefing journalists on the outcomes of the meetings, Mr Sanaullah said the country's law and order situations still remain under control.

The Commission has taken all kinds of initiatives to restore public confidence, he mentioned.

Earlier, the chiefs of the three services informed the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin about their preparedness for helping ensure a free and fair election.

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Navy Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan held the meeting with CEC AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Building.

Briefing the reporters, EC Sanaullah said about 1,00,000 members of the armed forces will be deployed at the field levels.

The EC has already issued directives with regard to improvement of the law and order situation in the country, he said. The armed forces had said they were fully prepared, he added.

He further said the EC's another meeting with the intelligence agencies has been scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday).
