Price ceilings for govt motor vehicles rise

The government has increased price ceilings for procuring motorized vehicles by public-sector entities by 15-35 per cent between 2023 and 2026, reflecting sustained price hikes in the global automobile market.
The Ministry of Finance (MoF) issued an official order on January 05, 2025 in this connection asking all authorities to comply while approving vehicle purchase ceilings. It fixed the rates on August 2, 2023.
Under the revised ceilings, the maximum price for cars up to 1,600cc has risen from Tk 4.5 million in 2023 to Tk 5.6 million in 2026, an increase of about 24.4 per cent. The ceiling for jeeps/cars up to 2,700cc, mainly used by grade-1 and grade-2 officials, has increased from Tk 14.5 million to Tk 16.93 million, an increase by 16.75 per cent, while that for vehicles up to 2,000cc for grade-3 and lower grade officials remained unchanged.
Utility vehicles have seen sharper hikes, with single-cabin pickup ceilings rising by about 37 per cent and double-cabin pickups by about 56 per cent.
The new rate for motorcycle increases to Tk 193,000 from Tk 140,000, while the price for microbus up to 2,700cc is set at Tk 5.4 million. It was Tk 5.2 million earlier.
The price for ambulance is fixed at Tk 5.4 million, coaster/minibus (air-conditioned) at Tk 8.0 million, minibus (non-AC) at Tk 4.5 million, bus (non-AC) at Tk 5.82 million, truck up to 5.0 tonnes at Tk 4.71 million, and truck up to 3.0 tonnes at Tk 4.2 million.
