Acting chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman has applied for a travel pass at the Bangladesh High Commission in London in order to return home after over 17 years in exile.

The information was confirmed on Thursday night by the foreign ministry.

Rahman has completed the prescribed form for a travel pass and submitted it to the Bangladesh High Commission in the United Kingdom.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that Tarique Rahman would return to Bangladesh on a regular commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on December 25. The aircraft carrying him is scheduled to land in Dhaka at 11:55am on the day.

BNP chairperson's private secretary Abdus Sattar said Tarique Rahman would return from London to Dhaka via Sylhet, accompanied by his daughter Zaima Rahman. The flight carrying him is expected to arrive in Dhaka shortly after 11am on December 25.

Earlier, speaking at a discussion organised by the UK unit of the BNP, Tarique Rahman himself announced that he would return to Bangladesh on December 25.
