A child has drowned in Chuadanga's Alamdanga Upazila as his mother was at the polling centre to cast her ballot, reports bdnews24.com.
The incident occurred around 10:30am in Kharad village in the Upazila, said Alamdanga Police chief Bani Israel.
The child -- three-year-old Hasan -- was the son of village resident Israil Hossain.
The family says Israil's wife had taken her twin sons -- Hasan and Hussein -- to her father's house for a visit.
In the morning, she accompanied her family members to the polling centre to vote, leaving her sons behind.
After returning from the polling centre, she found Hussein, but could not find Hasan and grew worried.
The boy was later found floating in a pond next to the house.
He was rushed to the Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex with the help of locals, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Officer Bani said the child died after falling into the pond, as no one was watching him. An unnatural death case has been filed over the incident.
