Customs intelligence has recovered more than Tk 1.91 million in additional duties, taxes and penalties after uncovering a false declaration involving an imported consignment at Chattogram Port.
The inspection found that the importer had declared 6,704.56 kilograms of chocolate, while the actual quantity was 7,132.25 kilograms.
Likewise, the declared quantity of wafers was 2,572.16 kilograms, compared with 2,684.88 kilograms found during the examination.
Overall, the consignment contained 540.41 kilograms of undeclared goods, equivalent to 5.83 per cent of the declared net weight, officials said.
Following adjudication, the customs authorities realised Tk 813,440.57 in additional customs duties and taxes. They also imposed a financial penalty of Tk 1.0 million and a redemption fine of Tk 100,000.
In total, the government recovered Tk 1,913,440.57 from the importer, according to the CIID.
