Maiden ECNEC meeting today

The new government is set to hold the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today (Tuesday), officials said.
Planning Commission (PC) officials said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to preside over the meeting.
The ECNEC is likely to approve some eight development projects at its maiden meeting today, they added.
The last ECNEC meeting was held on November 07 in 2018 under the Awami League-led government. A total of 28 development projects involving Tk 302.34 billion were endorsed at the meeting.
Within just two months from October to November 2018, the last government approved 165 projects aggressively at a cost of Tk 2.29 trillion.
A senior PC official said they are ready to arrange the first ECNEC meeting of the present government at their Sher-e-Bangla Nagar office in the city.
Among the project proposals, three are from Roads and Highways Department (RHD) and one each from Local Government & Rural Development Ministry, Jute and Textiles Ministry, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, Industries Ministry and Cultural Affairs Ministry.
Of these projects, RHD will upgrade Jatrabari (Mayor Hanif Flyover) to Demra (Sultana Kamal Bridge) road into four-lane one as it will be placed today before the ECNEC for getting approval.
Besides, RHD has sought approval for Chollosha-Kunia-Medni-Rajurbazar connecting road construction and building of nine bridges and culverts on Gobindaganj-Chatak-Doarabazar road projects from the ECNEC.
Finance minister, planning minister and some other cabinet ministers who are the members of the newly formed ECNEC will be present at the meeting.
