Measles-like symptoms claim four more lives

Four more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8:00am on Thursday, raising the death toll to 835.

Of the total fatalities, 96 were laboratory-confirmed measles cases, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Some 870 suspected and 135 confirmed measles infections were recorded during the reporting period.

The total number of suspected measles cases has risen to 127,410, while confirmed infections have reached 15,874.

In response to the rapidly spreading measles outbreak, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has vaccinated more than 18.48 million children since April and is continuing the nationwide immunisation campaign.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that affects people of all ages and remains one of the leading causes of death among young children worldwide.

Meanwhile, three more people died from dengue during the same period, taking the total number of dengue-related deaths this year to 53.

A further 467 dengue patients were hospitalised in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of reported cases to 15,157.
