CHATTOGRAM, June 18: Police recovered the body of a five-year-old boy on Thursday two days after his kidnap on Tuesday at Patia in Chattogram. Police also arrested five persons in this connection.
The victim was identified as Zaihan, son of Md Shahjahan of South Gobindarkhil village in Patia municipality area under Chattogram district.
The arrested persons are identified as Md Saiful, Shahanur, Niha, Nihan and Wasifa. Police suspected their involvement in the killing.
According to the police, the victim went missing while playing on a road near his house on Tuesday noon in South Gobindarkhil village. Later, the child's mother found a letter threatening to kill the child, if Tk 300 thousand (3 lakh) in ransom is not paid.
Relatives alleged that the neighbours had planned to kidnap the child for ransom. Fearing they might be caught, they killed him by hitting him on the head with a hammer and then stuffed his body into a sack and dumped it in a dumping ground. However, since the incident, the neighbours had also been searching for Jaihan with the family.
However, a written complaint was filed with the Potia police station in this connection. After filing of the complaint, police started investigating the matter. During investigation, police, DB police and local people spotted the body of Zaihan, kept in a sack, from a water body in Purba Para, behind the house of the arrestees, on Thursday morning. Police recovered the body and arrested five persons in this connection. The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy.
The local people staged demonstration in front of Patia police station against the murder of the five-year-old boy.
