Siddiqur Rahman new BGMEA chief

Siddiqur Rahman, former vice-president of BGMEA, was declared on Wednesday president of the apparel trade-body for 2015-2016.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Election Board also announced seven other directors as vice presidents (VPs) unopposed, according to a press statement.  

The board announced Moinuddin Ahmed as first vice president, Faruque Hassan senior vice president, and S M Mannan (Kachi), Mohammed Nasir, Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), Ferdous Perves Bivon and Md Ferdous as vice presidents.

The new committee may take charge of the office on September 22.

Traditionally two panels of garment owners contest in the BGMEA election under the banners of 'Sommilito Parishad' and 'Forum', and elect office-bearers for two years.

This year, they formed a single panel and decided not to challenge one another. This committee will be in the office for one year instead of two years.

However, Election Board did not give any explanation for the change in duration of committee.
