UNICEF issues warnings for children as 2 die from heatstroke

Two persons died from heatstroke in Chattogram, and Khulna districts on Wednesday as long punishing heatwaves continue to sweep through Bangladesh, report agencies.

In Chattogram, a farmer died from heatstroke while working in the fields at West Chunti Hadur Pahar village in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram. The dead is Samshul Alam (60), son of late Thanda Mia of the area.

In Kurigram, a man died after falling sick amid intense heat in Chilmari upazila.

The unusually high temperatures of April have already led to multiple deaths in the last few days. As such, the government has also issued a directive to shut down schools and colleges as sweltering temperatures grip the continent.

Meanwhile, UNICEF has called for precautionary measures, expressing deep concern for the health and safety of children, reports bdnews24.com.
