Action if Aedes larvae found in construction sites: Taposh

FE REPORT | April 25, 2024 00:00:00

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has warned of stopping any under-construction works if Aedes larvae are found inside them.

He sounded the warning after inspecting the renovation work of Dr Qazi Bashir Auditorium (Mohanagar Natyamancha) at Shaheed Matiur Park, Gulistan, in the capital on Wednesday morning.

The mayor said water reservoirs of many buildings here remained unclean even after a long time of completion of the work, allowing the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

As per different surveys and research reports, he said, it has proved that most of the under-construction buildings become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

"The developers concerned, especially the REHAB, must play a responsible role in containing the spread of dengue," said Mr Taposh.

"We'll take a stern legal action this time against those who have failed to carry out our directives to control Aedes mosquitoes," he warned.

"If we (DSCC) find Aedes larvae, we'll not only impose financial penalty, but also shut down construction work if necessary," he continued.

Mr Taposh further said that they would start a drive to control dengue from next month (May).

To this effect, the DSCC will sit in a meeting with the police administration, RAJUK, railways department, public works department and stakeholders concerned to discuss ways to control dengue.

During the upcoming meeting, Mr Taposh said, they would request those departments to keep their respective residential and other buildings neat and tidy
