The biennial election of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) for the 2008-2010 term will be held tomorrow (Saturday).
Twenty seven candidates each from two panels-- Sammilito Shamannaya Front and Sammilita Ganatantrik Front-- are contesting the elections.
Sammilito Shamannaya Front is led by renowned businessman and former MP Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain of Bay Eastern Limited while his opponent panel is led by Mohammad Golam Mostafa.
The Sammilito Shamannaya Front has announced a 27-point election manifesto pledging to turn the BAIRA into a dynamic trade body through resolving problems faced by recruiting agencies.
In the manifesto, the Front said that if elected it would work with the government to formulate and implement a manpower export policy. It will also persuade the government to amend the immigration ordinance 1982 to make it private sector-friendly, it said.
The Front will persuade the government to declare the manpower export business as a thrust sector and extend all-out support to BAIRA members to expand their businesses.
It will set up a training centre to train up skilled manpower as per the requirements of manpower importing countries. The front will construct a multistoried "BAIRA Bhaban" at Eskaton.
Currently, wage earners are paying travel tax that is not acceptable, the Front said and added that it would persuade the authorities concerned to exempt wage earners from such a tax.
