FE REPORT

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a plan to remove all sacrificial animal waste within eight hours on Eid-ul-Azha day.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam disclosed the information to media after inspecting preparations for the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah ground in the capital on Monday.

He said waste collection will begin at 01:30 pm under the DSCC's special cleanliness programme and is expected to be completed by 09:30 pm.

The DSCC has set a target of removing 33,942 tonnes of waste over the three days of Eid. Of the total, around 15,935 tonnes are expected to be collected on the first day, 11,776 tonnes on the second day and 6,231 tonnes on the third day.

A total of 13,453 sanitation workers and 2,117 vehicles, including trucks, container carriers, payloaders and dozers, will be deployed for the cleanup operation, he said.

To ensure effective waste management, the DSCC is distributing 46 tonnes of bleaching powder, 1,050 litres of disinfectant and 140,000 biodegradable bags across its 75 wards, Md Abdur Salam added.

Regarding the main Eid congregation, he said it will be held at 7:30 am at the National Eidgah, where President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, members of the Council of Advisers, cabinet members, foreign diplomats and other dignitaries are expected to attend.

In case of adverse weather, the congregation will be shifted to the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 08:30 am, he said.

Separate entry points for men and women, ablution facilities, medical services and special security arrangements will be ensured at the National Eidgah, the DSCC administrator added.

He urged city dwellers to perform animal sacrifices at designated places and cooperate with sanitation workers by disposing of waste in plastic or biodegradable bags.
