The Dhaka University (DU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has submitted a memorandum to the university adminsitration, outlining several demands.

These include ensuring accommodation for first-year students and taking action against those responsible for torture in guest rooms and 'ganorooms' in previous years.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday noon after submitting the memorandum , JCD DU unit General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon alleged that following August 5, a particular student organisation had been conducting political activities covertly under the banner of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

He further claimed that the group was directly involved in the torture of students through guest room and 'ganoroom' practices.

He stated that the JCD had already obtained evidence to support these allegations and had identified the organisation as Islami Chhatra Shibir.

He added that recent incidents in several residential halls have once again brought to light records of guest room practices, along with WhatsApp and Messenger group activities in which students were allegedly threatened. He urged the vice-chancellor to immediately form an independent investigation commission and take strict action against those found responsible.

JCD DU unit President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos noted that fresh students have been admitted to Dhaka University for the 2025-2026 academic session. He highlighted that around 80 per cent of DU students come from rural areas and rely on residential facilities to sustain their academic life. However, he pointed out that the university is currently facing a severe accommodation shortage.

In this context, he said the memorandum calls for allocating seats to first-year students on a merit basis as far as possible.
