The government under its own initiative has so far sold beef, mutton, poultry and milk worth Tk 200 million at affordable prices during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, meat, egg and milk sales points have been expanded to 26 new locations, bringing the total number of sales points in the capital to 51.
Under the initiative of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and the Department of Livestock in cooperation with stakeholders concerned, the mobile sales programme for dressed broiler, egg, pasteurised milk, beef and mutton has been ongoing in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country.
The aim is to ensure the supply and stability of prices of meat, egg, milk and other essential items during the holy month.
As of March 19, a total of 0.609-million customers, including 0.396-million men and 0.212-million women, have bought milk, egg, dressed broiler, beef and mutton worth Tk 198.35 million through mobile sales centres.
As a result, the supply and prices of meat, egg, milk and other items have remained stable countrywide, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
Prioritising areas where public footprint was higher during the July uprising, 25 sales centres have been operating in Dhaka since the first day of Ramadan.
From March 23, as part of a special initiative called 'Supply of Animal Protein' under the budget of the MoFL, an additional 23 centres have been launched in Dhaka city, three in Narayanganj city and 14 in seven divisional offices.
As part of this initiative, egg will be sold at Tk 100 a dozen, dressed broiler at Tk 250 a kg, pasteurised milk at Tk 80 a litre and beef at Tk 650 a kg across the country.
