The authorities have initiated to address waterlogging in different parts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the coming rainy season, mayor barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said.

"Moves are there to analyse each area and measures are taken to ensure proper drainage system," he added.

A new project has been undertaken to prevent waterlogging in New Market area, said Mr Taposh.

An initiative has been taken to recover natural water drainage system at Pilkhana, according to him.

The mayor said this while talking to the media after visiting a programme to clean Panthapath Box Culvert located inside the Pantha Kunja Parkon Wednesday.

"New Market and Shantinagar were among the waterlogged areas during last year's rainy season. We've ensured water flow and hope that there will be no waterlogging this year," he said on a positive note.

Mr Taposh said 70 per cent of the Dhaka south city was seen waterlogged even before 2020, which has now reduced significantly.

"We've ensured proper drainage system as well as smooth flow of water. We always keep our officials ready in all areas of the corporation so that they can respond promptly to address waterlogging."

The mayor also said that the park would get a facelift within next July.

Initiatives were taken under a mega project in 2017 for the development of Pantho Kunja park, he said.

However, the DSCC could not implement the project since the construction of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway halted the move.

Following a series of discussions with agencies concerned, the DSCC got allocation for a part of the park.
