The government has appointed MR Islam Shadhin as the administrator of the newly formed Bogura City Corporation, reports bdnews24.com.
The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notice on the appointment on Monday.
The notice said that he will serve as the full-time administrator of the city corporation until the corporation is formed or until further orders are issued in accordance with Sub-Section (1) of Section 25A of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. It also said that the appointed administrator will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor of the city corporation in accordance with Sub-Section (3) of Section 25A. He will receive an allowance as per the rules.
Previously, the Local Government Division declared Bogura a city corporation on May 14 and published a government gazette in this regard.
On Apr 20, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid the foundation stone of the city corporation at the Bogra Municipality premises.
The Bogura City Corporation consists of 21 wards. In addition to the existing municipal area, several Mouzas of the Sadar Upazila and Shajahanpur Upazila have been added to it. The areas include Phulbari, Nishindara, Katnarpara, Sutrapur, Chakbrindaban, Malgram, Thanathania, Garamara, Maltinagar, Latifpur, Fuldighi and Betgari.
Earlier, the government had issued a public notice regarding the expanded area and directed the Deputy commissioner to consult local residents for their views. Later, the decision to declare Bogra a city corporation was finalised after reviewing the locals' opinions and the administration's report.
Bogura Municipality was established in 1876. It consisted of 12 wards. In 2006, when the BNP was in power, Bogura Municipality was upgraded to 21 wards with the aim of eventually making it a city corporation.
