BNP leader Annie acquitted in graft case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday acquitted BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against him, reports BSS.

Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 delivered the verdict, court clerk Zahidur Rahman confirmed to the news agency.

The judgment came after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments on July 16.

The ACC had filed the case with Ramna Police Station on October 9, 2014. Then ACC Deputy Director Md Manjur Morshed accused Annie of concealing information on wealth worth Tk 1.3 million and amassing illegal wealth amounting to Tk 14.0 million.
