The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has reported an income of about Tk 221.96 million in the 2025 calendar year, while its expenditure stood at around Tk 152.61 million.
According to the party's audited financial statement, submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday, the BNP's total fund, including the previous balance and the year's surplus, stood at approximately Tk 280.47 million.
A BNP delegation, led by its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, formally handed over the balance sheet to EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed at the EC Secretariat in Agargaon.
The delegation also included BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat and Assistant Office Secretary Monir Hossain, among others.
The financial report showed that the party's income increased in 2025 compared with the previous year, while its expenditure rose more than threefold.
In 2024, the BNP reported an income of nearly Tk 156.59 million and expenditure of about Tk 48 million.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), all registered political parties are required to submit their annual income and expenditure statements for the previous calendar year to the EC by July 31. Failure to do so for three consecutive years may result in cancellation of a party's registration.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the report, Rizvi said the party had complied with all legal requirements.
"We believe that in a democratic country, political parties should submit their income and expenditure statements as part of strengthening democracy," he said.
"The people have the right to know how a political party elected by their votes manages its finances, including its sources of income and expenditure," Rizvi added.
BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the party's income came from subscriptions paid by executive committee members, sales of books, primary membership forms and nomination forms, donations from individuals and organisations, and bank interest.
He said the party's expenditure included financial assistance, flood relief, printing election posters and leaflets, purchasing vehicles for party use, organising public rallies and discussion meetings, publishing supplements, arranging iftar programmes and meeting office expenses.
