Former lawmaker M Sayedul Haque and Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim were Sunday charge-sheeted by the Anti-corruption Commission in a case filed for trading a tax-free car, reports UNB.
Additional CMM Golam Rabbani accepted the charge-sheet after it was placed by the ACC before the court.
Karim and Haque, a former lawmaker from Brahmanbaria, were charged with causing a loss of Tk 8.45 million (84.55 lakh) to the state exchequer through trading down the luxury car imported free of duty under a parliament member's privilege.
According to the charge sheet, the accused imported the duty-free car and caused the loss to the state by selling it off.
Earlier, the anti-graft watchdog filed a case with Tejgaon thana police in this connection on August 9 last year under a purge launched following the 1/11 changeover that put many bigwigs behind bars.
In another case, the ACC submitted charge-sheet against Shuvaiddya Union chairman under Keraniganj thana M Nazim Uddin to the same court for amassing wealth worth Tk 130.3 million (13.03 crore) beyond his known sources of income.
The ACC filed the case against Nazim Uddin with Ramna thana on March 30 last year.
