Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said the government is considering nationalising one women's college in each upazila as part of its efforts to expand women's education and ensure their empowerment and equal access to education, reports UNB.
"The present government is firmly committed to expanding women's education and ensuring women's empowerment and equal opportunities in education," he said while replying to a tabled question from MP Ikramul Bari Tipu (Naogaon-4) during the question-answer session in Parliament.
Tarique said special importance is being given to expanding women's education in large and important upazilas like Naogaon's Manda upazila.
The Parliament session began at 11:00 am, half an hour behind schedule due to a microphone glitch, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Four questions were listed for the PM during the session.
In his question, MP Ikramul Bari Tipu wanted to know whether there is any plan to nationalise 'Manda Thana Adarsha Balika Bidyalaya and College' in his constituency along with similar institutions at upazila headquarters across the country and the possible timeframe for implementation.
Thanking the lawmaker, the PM said the government would take initiatives to nationalise eligible educational institutions, including the one mentioned, in phases, subject to existing policies and availability of necessary funds.
