Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday said the government failed to stop his party's movement despite resorting to the path of suppression and oppression.

"Our (BNP) movement is yet to finish. We are still in the movement as we are yet to achieve our target," he said emphatically.

Mr Rizvi made the comments while addressing an Eid reunion of Dhaka north's party leaders, who have been released from jail, at Uttara in the capital.

He claimed a total of 20 BNP leaders and activists lost their lives due to bullets fired by law-enforcement agencies from October 2023 until 27 January 2024.

Many leaders and activists also suffered physical impairment and lost their eyesight, uttered Mr Rizvi.

"The government couldn't stop the BNP by means of oppression and suppression," he asserted.

About Obaidul Quader's comment that the BNP could not tolerate Awami League's victory, Mr Rizvi said, "What's victory? You (AL) may think yourself as victorious through a dummy election. You (AL) snatched away public vote and are getting an unwelcoming response from all corners of the country."

"A big communal force is now governing India. And this power supports is extending support to the ruling Awami League. You (AL) just speak to appease India," he said while refuting the comments made by Mr Quader that the AL will defeat all communal forces.

Dhaka city BNP leader Mostofa Zaman organised the event.

Dhaka city north BNP acting convener Forad Halim Donar and its member secretary Aminul Haque, among others, were present at the event.
