Jamaat's women wing seeks votes for party chief

The women's wing of Jamaat-e- Islami has brought out procession in the capital's Mirpur area show support for its ameer and Dhaka-15 candidate Shafiqur Rahman, ahead of the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election slated for February 12.

The rally started at Folpotti Mor in Mirpur-10 and moved to Kazipara, where it ended with a brief rallly.

Leaders of the women's wing from Dhaka North unit of Jamaat addressed the participants, urging voters to cast their ballots in the upcoming election.

They also condemned recent attacks on women in different parts of the country.

"Human welfare must be achieved in two ways: by making life on this earth safe, and by establishing a just and fair society," Irani Akter, central working committee member, said.

She expressed hope that Shafiqur Rahman would undertake welfare-oriented initiatives and work to address the ills facing society.

"We want to send a message that women's liberation, security, and rights can be ensured through the establishment of a just and fair society. We will appeal to the people to vote for justice and fairness to create a humane society," she said.
