No attack would foil upcoming election: EC

FE REPORT | December 15, 2025 00:00:00

No vicious attempts, including clandestine attack, would foil the upcoming 13th national election, Election Commissioner Brig. Gen. Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (Retd.) said on Sunday.

"The message from the Election Commission (EC) is very clear, there are no concerns regarding the election. The election will be held on time, and the EC as well as the government, are aware of the kind of challenges," said the EC.

He also said there could be more "clandestine" attacks such as the attack on Inqilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman bin Hadi on Friday.

"We are neither ruling out the possibility of clandestine attacks, nor we say that such attack will not take place in future," he said.

He made the remarks while briefing the reporters following a meeting with the top officials of the law enforcing agencies at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area on Sunday.

CEC AMM Nasir Uddin chaired the emergency meeting on law and order attended by four election commissioners and top law enforcement officials.

"The main objective (of the meeting) was (to explore the scopes) that these kinds of attacks can't repeat, as well as these are suppressed with an iron fist," he said, adding that all the agencies' high-ups agreed that such attacks will be foiled.

The election commission urged the agencies to increase the number of check points to help limit the activities of miscreants, detaining the terrorists who are moving in freely, bringing them under the purview of law, and recovering the ammunitions looted during the July revolution.

"We have been assured of (security measures)," he said.

The meeting also discussed the second phase of operation devil hunt, enhancing intelligence in the country's border and south-east regions.

Regarding the attack on Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the EC further said there have been efforts to inspect the nature of the attacks.

"Necessary steps will be taken to foil such attacks in future," he said.
