Quader urges BGMEA, BKMEA to grant RMG workers Eid leave in phases

Landlords urged to be humane towards their tenants

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader urged on Saturday Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) to grant workers Eid-ul-Azha leave in phases, reports UNB.

He made this call in an online briefing from his official residence in the city.

Quader also hoped that garment owners will set an example this time by paying workers' salaries before Eid.

He urged the authorities concerned to take steps in stopping movements of goods laden trucks, covered vans for three days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Vehicles carrying agriculture, industrial and export items, medical equipment, relief, fuel, medicine, food, perishable products and other emergency services, will be out of this restriction, he added.

He also informed that CNG filling stations will be kept open for 24 hours eight days before and after the Eid.

Quader also urged the owners not to operate unfit vehicles for carrying sacrificial animals.

Besides protecting livelihoods during Eid-ul-Azha, Quader urged all to maintain social distancing and health guidelines to be safe from coronavirus infections.

About the allegation against landlords of being inhumane to tenants including students, jobless poor people, Quader urged them to be sympathetic towards each other during this pandemic.
