National Consensus Commission (NCC) Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz on Saturday said a national consensus could be achieved quickly through dialogue involving all political parties, reports UNB.

"There are disagreements and differences of opinion among political parties, but many share common views. All voices will be heard, and I hope we can reach a national consensus through dialogue," he said during a meeting with the Khelafat Majlish at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad.

Ali Riaz said, "As part of this process, you (Khelafat Majlish) are participating. We have begun our work within a short time and could not allocate much time. However, based on the sincere opinions you have shared, we will proceed with our discussions."

He said the dialogue would not be limited to their party alone as it would also include other political parties.

The National Consensus Commission opened its dialogues with political parties, starting with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Thursday, aiming to build a national consensus on the reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government.

The commission identified the crucial recommendations made in the reports of five reform commissions - the constitution reform commission, the public administration reform commission, the electoral system reform commission, the judiciary reform commission and the ACC reform commission - to seek opinions from the political parties.

Later, the commission sent a set of recommendations in a spreadsheet format to 38 political parties asking them to send their specific opinions on the important reform recommendations by March 13.

BSS adds: the NCC held talks with Khilafat Majlis and Bangladesh Labour Party aiming to create consensus on the reform proposals.

The discussions were held on the second day of the dialogue with the political parties at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building.

Headed by its Vice President Professor Ali Riaz, NCC members Safar Raj Hossain, Justice SM Emdadul Hoque, Dr Iftekheruzzaman, Dr Badiul Alam Mazumder and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Monir Haider were present at the meeting.

The eight-member Khelafat Majlis delegation was led by its Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Kader.

The other members of the delegation were Mawlana Ahmed Ali Qasemi, Dr Mustafizur Rahman Foysal, Professor Md Abdul Jalil, ABM Sirajul Mamun, Adv Md Mizanur Rahman, Prof Qazi Minhajul Alam and Abdul Hafij Khasru.

The 13-member Bangladesh Labour Party delegation was led by party's Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran.

Other members of the delegation included SM Eusuf Ali, Adv Johora Khatun Jui, Mahbubur Rahman Khaled, Md Alauddin Ali and Ramkrishna Saha.

The NCC on March 20 held its maiden meeting with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) as part of the move to reach a national consensus on the recommendations of the reform commissions after holding talks with the stakeholders.

The Commission was formed under the chairmanship of the interim government's Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, with the aim of building a national consensus.
