Dr Zubaidur Rahman new chair of Islami Bank

Six days after the resignation of Obayed Ullah-Al Masud, Professor Dr M Zubaidur Rahman has been elected chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC.

He was elected chairman of the country's largest unconventional commercial bank at a board meeting of the bank held on Wednesday, according to a press release of the bank.
Earlier on July 17 last, its immediate past chairman Obayed Ullah-Al Masud resigned from the bank's board on personal ground.
Before the election as the chairman, Dr Zubaidur has been serving as the independent director of the bank.
He started his career as a lecturer at the Department of Finance in Dhaka University back in 1975. Then he obtained his PhD in finance from the University of Manchester, UK.
Later he held various academic positions internationally i.e Professor at State University of New York, visiting Professor at the University of Bocconi, Italy, visiting Scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA and the Moscow State University, Russia.
Professor Rahman is an experienced independent adviser to companies, governments and international organisations operating in developing and emerging market economies. His work includes strategic advice and change management process. He has deep expertise in country financial accountability arrangements and corporate governance.
His work as a Senior Staff Member of the World Bank (WB) mainly focused on institutional capacity building activities to assist WB's member countries in strengthening institutional underpinnings of financial transparency, accountability and governance in both private and public sectors of the economy.
During his tenure at the World Bank, Professor Rahman led the design and implementation of a programme called the "Standards and Codes Initiative" to strengthen the international financial architecture.
